Masala Island Indian Restaurant’s Tips For Cooking The Perfect Basmati Rice
We’ll start off with a recipe that uses one cup of basmati rice. You should always rinse your rice to remove any excess starch. After you’re done rinsing, it makes all the difference to soak the rice for half an hour in plenty of water.
When half an hour has passed, drain the water and add your basmati rice to a pot. Add two cups of water along with a pinch of salt and a dash of either vegetable oil or olive oil.
Bring the water to a boil at a medium to high heat with the lid off the pot. Once the water starts to boil, cover the pot with a lid and set the heat to low. Cook the rice for another fifteen minutes.
After fifteen or so minutes, remove the lid and check for excess water. If there is some excess water continue to reduce it at a low heat. Once all the water is gone, give the rice a stir.
If you feel like you’d like to spice up your basmati rice, you could try a little Indian restaurant trick, and add a 1/8 tsp of turmeric for colour.
